About Tobago
Our slice of paradise
Tobago is an island paradise located in the southern Caribbean, northeast of its sister isle, Trinidad, and just off the coast of Venezuela. Known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and vibrant culture, Tobago offers a unique Caribbean experience filled with natural beauty and rich heritage.

Quick history lesson
Did you know?
Like many Caribbean islands, Tobago was originally inhabited by the indigenous Arawaks and Caribs. However, its colonial history is unique, as the island changed hands more than any other Caribbean territory. Over the years, the French, Dutch, and British all fought for control before Tobago was officially ceded to Great Britain in 1814. In 1888, it was unified with Trinidad to form a single colony. The nation of Trinidad and Tobago gained independence in 1962 and became a republic in 1976.
Dive into our culture: Tobago’s cultural influences differ from those of Trinidad, shaped by its unique history. While Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is a world-renowned spectacle, Tobago’s most distinctive cultural showcase is the Tobago Heritage Festival. This month-long event highlights traditional music, dance, and storytelling, with the highlight being the Old Time Wedding, where participants parade through the streets of Moriah in 18th and 19th-century attire, dancing the wedding jig while onlookers offer food and drink.
